Over the next several days, Kaira and the others made their way back across the mountains of the Zunites, past the poisonous fields, and to the base below. Instead of retracing their steps toward the former abode of Mysteria however, Giska led them east. Day and night, they moved at a steady pace through grasslands, beneath strange forests, and around lush waterways. This path was much easier for the travelers and enabled them to cross the land at a faster rate. Above, flew the 3,000 wertals, their shadows stretching out over the landscape.

“How far do you think we are from the castle?” Shal asked as they stopped to rest near a mountain range that looked strangely familiar to Kaira.

“It shouldn’t be long now,” Kaira told her. “I think we’ve seen these mountains before...
