Mysteria looked in horror down at the animal in her arms. “Experimenting with animals?”

“I saw them with my own eyes,” Kaira told her. “I was taken captive and brought to a Moribundian fortress. There were bones everywhere and I saw the shapes of disfigured animals.”

Mysteria looked at her doubtfully. “You could have been mistaken.”

“No,” Shal joined in. “The animals have said so as well.”

“The animals?” Mysteria asked.

Shal looked at Kaira with an apologetic expression in her eyes.
