“Join us?” Shal asked, looking down at the dead beast with alarm.

“It was just a suggestion,” William assured her softly. “It would give us an advantage though; they are aggressive fighters.”

“Yea, I know,” Shal told him.

“Well, since we know there are no others, I suggest we return to our camp and settle down for the night,” Alexander suggested, looking at Shal with concern. “I am sure you must be exhausted.”

Shal nodded gratefully.

Remounting the horses, they rode slowly back to their campsite. Shal patted Runley and tried to keep her eyes open. Kaira kept Birjanji beside her and when they arrived, helped her down from the bay gelding. “Here, you sit down, and we’ll have dinner ready in no time,”...
