At the sound of Kaira’s voice, Lance’s eyes opened. An expression of terror sat within them.

Kaira had never seen him look that way before. “What’s wrong?” she asked worriedly.

“I am alright,” Lance said softly in a tight tone, half-closing his eyes again. “I-I just do not like high places.”

Kaira didn’t know what to say and she didn’t think anything she said would help. She wished she could hold his hand, but there was too much space between them. Instead, she edged Birjanji closer to Centriar to act as a sort of buffer between him and the cliff. “Centriar stay next to Birjanji and me, alright?”
