Kaira and Shal watched in open awe as a glistening white animal emerged from the trees. “Please tell me I’m dreaming,” Shal whispered, her emerald eyes glued to the creature.

“If you are, then I definitely am,” Kaira whispered back.

The animal stepped gracefully over the damp ground, its long white mane and tail trailing, the single horn in its forehead gleaming in the fading light. It was delicately built; smaller in stature than Birjanji and the horses—about the size of a large pony. A short white beard hung from its chin and the light blue eyes held a hint of fierceness within their depths. White feathery tufts grew above each of its hooves.
