Kaira nodded silently and the king smiled. “Good.” He led the way out of the throne room and Shal rushed over to Kaira.

“I’m so sorry for the way I acted this morning,” Shal whispered, hugging her. “I was just feeling sorry for myself and I took it out on you.”

“I’m sorry too for not being more understanding of your feelings,” Kaira told her, hugging her back. “You’re my best friend and I love you so much.”

“Me too,” Shal said, her voice cracking with her emotions. “I know you’re here for a reason and no matter what, I’m on your side, so let’s go kick some Moribundian butt.”

Kaira laughed and the two girls walked out of the throne room together. “You’re wearing pants!”...
