Kaira felt suddenly uncomfortable as everyone’s eyes turned on her. “I saw him sneak into the castle and Giska stopped him before he could reach you.”

“Giska?” the king asked, a confused expression on his face.

Giska thumped her tail against the stone, evincing exclamations of surprise from all present at the sight of the fierce looking gargoyle. The king looked from the gargoyle to Kaira and she knew he did not need to be told how the gargoyle happened to be there. Kaira shivered as she lowered her eyes.

“Sire, might I suggest taking Lady Kaira to the library where there is always a fire burning?” Lance suggested. “I am sure she must be quite chilled by now.”
