Minstrels and harps were playing when Kaira and Shal walked into the large dining hall that night. Kaira saw Lord Rogette and his companions sitting at a table, talking and laughing with members of the Luthanian court. When Lord Rogette saw the two girls, he stood and walked over.

“Greetings my ladies,” he said. “May I seat you?”

“Thank you,” Kaira replied, recovering her surprise.

The knight offered his arm to her and she hesitantly put her hand upon it. “I treated you with disrespect earlier,” Lord Rogette stated matter-of-factly. “Please accept my apologies.”

“There is nothing to forgive,” Kaira said. She could not think of when the knight was rude to her.
