When they arrived back at the castle, the king’s escort departed and, at the king’s command, the cubs were brought out. They were fed and allowed to nap that morning, and now they scampered over when they saw Kaira standing by the white and black stallion.

“Are you taking us to our parents now?” the larger of the two asked.

“Yes. Will you let us carry you?”

“Oh, yes! The men have been very nice to us, but we want to see our parents!”

“I want to go home!” a plaintive, younger voice chimed in.

Kaira scooped the smaller cub into her arms and she (for it was a female cub) snuggled trustingly against her. Lance picked up the brother. Kaira relinquished her hold on the cub to mount B...
