Fear froze Kaira’s heart as the horse she sat on approached a dilapidated-looking structure in the threatening darkness. They had been riding for hours and she was exhausted from her ordeal. Nevertheless, seeing the structure made her wish they were still traveling. She could make out men’s figures outlined against a sickly light, walking above on the parapet as her captor slowed his mount. “Lord DuPraye will not be happy with us,” one of the Moribundians said to him.
“Wait till he sees our prize,” the Moribundian holding her replied.
She shuddered.
