"Can you bring me some ale? Seton and I are a little are a little thirsty.”

I stood up and put my hand on Fleming’s arm. “There is no need to bring me ale, for I have been here with the Queen long enough, and should be helping the rest of you to pack our belongings for the journey to Scotland. Why don’t you sit here for a while?”

I was conscious of the fact that I had been spending much time at the Queen’s side, and while I enjoyed her company and the time we spent together, I did not want to be her sole confidant. The other Maries, after all, had been her companions since childhood too, and I felt that it was unfair for me not to allow them their place at her side.

“Thank you, Seton, I will be glad of the rest.” said Fleming.
