to the bathroom. She splashed herself in the face with icy water and looked at herself in the mirror under the bathroom’s harsh, unforgiving light. She really had to get to sleep. She considered going downstairs to the kitchen for a piece of her mother’s cherry pie, maybe with a little vanilla ice cream, but using her last bit of will power she decided against it. She opened her medicine cabinet, finding two sources of relief; one being a small bottle of sleeping pills and not having to look at the haggard reflection staring back at her in the mirror. She tapped two light blue tablets into her hand, and threw them into her mouth, downing them with a cup of cold water. Switching the light off, she climbed into bed, wrapping herself in her comforter and letting the darkness of the room wash over her.
