Maria checked her watch quickly as she dodged, with perfect New York skill, the oncoming crowds of people. She silently cursed her short lunch hour, which was hardly enough time to walk the six blocks from her job to the nearest McDonalds, wait on line, then try to gulp down the aptly named fast food and make it back before it was time to punch in. Not in downtown Manhattan – especially when half the world seemed to be doing the same thing at the same time.
