 I am a good person I want good things for me, for Luke, for my family, Mia reassured herself as he stalked away, keep your chin up, keep it high.

Now she had to wait agonisingly, guessing how Luke would react to her gift, to a surprise birthday party. Wondering how she should behave—whether she should even go. Deciding in the end – yes, she would go. She would show her face and leave when she was ready. She’d stay in the background and just be a silent witness to the start of a new chapter for Luke. A story of family, friends, tradition, culture all coming together for Luke and brought about by her actions primarily. That felt good.
