Charlie Riggs had never run so fast in his life. Gone were the days of his marathon running and he soon began to tire. Thank God for Georgie! Having a colleague on the chase encouraged Riggs to keep going. Not that it was easy. Whoever had been listening at the conference room door had youth and fitness on their side. Having been discovered listening in on the Cold Case Team’s deliberations, they had hurried along the corridor and down the service stairs at the far end. Riggs quickly realised how well the maid knew the hotel as she dodged in and out of the inevitable nooks and crannies of an old building. Ignoring the pain in his diaphragm, he and Ellis pursued the girl to the foot of the stairwell and then out through an emergency exit that led onto the moor.
