Rodney Beckinsale’s voice cracked on the last word, more from frustration than sorrow. The interview room walls swallowed the sound and gave nothing back.

“Come on, Rodney,” Sergeant Dave Wilson said, leaning back in his chair. “Pull the other one.”

“It’s true,” Rod insisted. “I did not kill Karen.”

“That’s not what Josie Yates says,” Wilson replied, cool.

“That lying bitch,” Rod began, eyes flashing. “I’ll—”

He stopped himself, jaw clenching.
