The trees line the highway

Ambassadors of nature

Whoever designed the highway I wonder what they were thinking

If they had forethought

Was it for the good of our planet

Or was it just to soften the rough edges of the concrete city

Either way, I’m grateful

I enjoy the trees in their shallow earth

Their trunks look like toothpicks

Ready for Mother Nature to pick her teeth with one ghastly swoosh

I’m glad to see the trees along my route

Instead of all the concrete, stone, and steel

Lights, technology and the flashing lights

Giving the gift of fresh air

Recycling and reminding me that I am one with Earth
