CHAPTER FOUR

Cara

A breeze touched Cara’s blond hair as she sat on the porch.  She’d finished the peanuts and gone inside to get herself a glass of water, reading all the while.  As she drank, she considered how she had never been to camp.  Her mother always made just enough for them to get by.  Occasionally, some money would show up mysteriously and they would go out to eat at a restaurant, or to an amusement park. 

Sometimes, Cara’s mom would apologize for the things she couldn’t provide.  “I’m so sorry Cara.  I know you would love to do what your friends are doing, but I just don’t have the money.”
