Jeffrey shook Mallory underneath her piles of blankets and comforters. “Mallory, wake up! Mom’s on the warpath.”
“Go away, twerp. I don’t care.” She burrowed further into her blankets and threw a pillow on top of her aching head.
“Mallory, c’mon. Get up.” Jeffrey persisted a moment longer, but she only swatted at him, so he left.
“Don’t say I didn’t try to help you,” he said and ran out of the room.
A moment later, Mallory’s mother jerked all the covers off of her bed, yelling her name.
“Mallory Dawn Reynolds. Get yourself out of that bed.”
“Mo-om,” she whined. “Leave me alone. I’m not six anymor...
