Mallory

 There was tip money in Mallory’s purse and she used it to buy a hotdog at Central Park.  She was starving.  She had meant to make something for her brother and her to eat at home, but she couldn’t go back now.  She hoped to slip in once everyone was asleep and avoid her mother’s questions and brother’s complaints. 

As tough as she was on him, she felt terrible for Jeffrey.  He was still young enough to like their parents and he would be pretty crushed to have their dad in jail.  He’d probably turn out to be some head case because of their messed-up parents.  Not Mallory, though.  She didn’t need them.  She’d make her own future.  She had lots of money saved up from working...
