Kate

Kate's sister always stole her friends.  They were a year apart; she was 17 and Sybille 16.  Yet Theresa and Mallory preferred Sybille almost from the beginning.  Kate watched Mallory and her sister leave the parade.  She was sitting with her only real friend, ZoÑ‘, along the cement sidewalk.  ZoÑ‘ was taking pictures of the parade from different artistic angles in the hopes of building a portfolio worthy of art school. Kate’s jeans was sticky from sitting on a lemon candy which had melted in the pitiful amount of sunshine.  She wanted to go home and clean up, but she would never abandon her friend.  The sweet citrusy smell of the candy was sickening.

When Kate turned six, she had a zoo-themed birthday party.  Her mother had made a zoo...
