Canada Day, 1993

Sybille

Sybille sat along the curb on Main Street, watching the annual parade on a cold summer afternoon, when she noticed Lucas on crutches across the street.  She wore a Canadian flag tattoo on her cheek, which suddenly burned with embarrassment.  She willed him to look her way, but he seemed to be purposely avoiding her in the company of his friends.  Sybille pointed at a float and made a remark to Mallory, laughing loudly as she did, but his attention could not be gained. 

The Boy Scouts float depicting boys camping in the wilderness passed by, blocking her view.
