EPILOGUE
Leanne
It was fall and Cara still hadn’t taken a trip to Banff to meet her other family. Leanne had thought Cara would go during the summertime, but she came down with mono and couldn’t do anything for most of the holidays. Leanne encouraged her daughter to phone or write a letter, but as far as she knew, no communication took place. Now Cara was back in school and Leanne was home from work with a head cold. No one wanted to be counselled by a woman with a dripping nose. She stood at the window with a hot cup of lemon tea, watching the red leaves of their maple tree swing in a playful touch of wind when the phone rang.
“Leanne?” The voice on the other end sounded distant, as if the caller were speaking through a tin...
