CHAPTER TWENTY

Cara

The end of the book was nearing.  Cara evaluated whom she liked best.  The girls had all changed throughout the book so that those Cara first wished to be her mother now seemed unlikely.  Cara first felt a connection to Sybille.  Probably because she was so heartbroken over Lucas.  Then Theresa seemed so kind and considerate. 

Mallory had seemed the least likeable.  There was a hardness about her that turned Cara off, but her friendship with Kate seemed to turn her into a girl Cara could imagine befriending.  Kate’s story seemed almost an aside from the rest.  She was nearly friendless and almost forgotten by everyone in her family, including her mother.  Cara was surprised to read that Kate slept with Lucas.  It wa...
