Theresa

It was another warm, windless day and Theresa wandered around the lake at Camp Morningfire.  She’d always been more of an indoor girl, but the she found the outdoors opened her senses.  She heard the chuck of a woodpecker, echoing across the mountains.  She smelled the warmth of earth and leaves.  She could feel the coolness blowing off the lake onto her cheeks.  It was like noticing a new friend who’d been there all along. 

She stumbled on an exposed root and caught sight of a chipmunk scurrying for cover.  She didn’t think she’d noticed a chipmunk since she was a little girl.  She stood very still for a moment and heard little noises from the spot where the chipmunk hid, but the animal did not reappear.
