Mallory

Two hours passed entirely agreeably.  Mallory marveled at how much better she felt after visiting with Kate and at how much they ate.  It was as if she’d forgotten who she’d been all her life, but talking to Kate, everything settled back into its proper position.  Eating helped too.  Mallory hadn’t realized just how hungry she was.

“I should get home,” she said.  “I’ve been trying to help my mom out with meals lately.  I think she really appreciates it.”

“That’s nice of you.” 

Kate said it with the look that Mallory kept seeing. A look of surprise at the person Mallory really was.  She enjoyed seeing the look.
