The dinner table was somewhat empty that night. Sybille’s mother explained their father had left that afternoon on a recruiting trip and Kate had left about half an hour before Sybille returned.
“It’s just the three of us,” said her mother, serving them each a large taco salad.
“Mmm, this looks great, Mom. Thanks.” Sybille was usually starving after a day at work. Joel groaned.
“Salad again, Mom? You know I hate salad.”
“It’s got meat in it, Joel,” said their mother. “Eat up.”
They prayed together and started eating when Sybille’s mother began laying out her agenda for the summer.
