Kate’s mother and brother, Joel, had returned an hour ago from the city, but neither of them came looking for her.  She was burrowed into her bed, numb from the explosion of emotions she had experienced after reading her sister’s letters and diary.

She had read them quickly, starving for information.  She had meant to put them right back, but then she read “I’m dating Lucas again!”

Was this possible?  Sybille checked to make sure this was recent, and discovered yesterday’s date.  She had read on, rapidly devouring the truth so quickly she nearly gagged.

She read how much her sister hated her for sleeping with Lucas and a paragraph later about their engagement.  At this point Kate threw the book on the floor and slammed...
