Kate

Kate was one year and seven days older than her sister.  She often wondered what life was like in that time before Sybille entered the world.  Was she the centre of her parent’s eyes?  Or were they, even then, focused on their next child?  Would it have been better if she were the youngest?  Would she then have thought it normal to worship her older and more beautiful sister?  At least she would have been smaller.  People seemed to like tiny things – babies, puppies, miniature toys.  She might have had a few years when people liked to hold her simply because she was little.
