Kate

The lemonade at Rocky Mountain Ices was unbeatable.  Kate watched the girl behind the counter squeeze fresh lemons into a cup of awaiting ice; then she added a splash of sweet soda and a sliced lemon to top it off.  Kate sipped it while heading home.  She had been wandering the town for most of the day and now it was time to give up.  Her mother would expect her help for dinner.  Not that Sybille ever helped.  Nooo.  That was Kate’s job, though she had never minded much until now.  Sybille was always busy with all of her extra-curricular activities, her friends and working.  It was just natural that Kate would help, and she liked being useful. . . but it really wasn’t fair.
