Kate

The day yawned before Kate like an endless tomb – lifeless and suffocating.  Could she not just climb in and rest for eternity?  After succumbing to her despair for an hour, Kate decided she must do something about this thing between her and Sybille.  She would find Lucas and speak to him, trying to unravel some of what could never be undone. 

Sybille was working and so Kate gathered her sandals, purse and sunglasses and walked out into a cool summer morning.  She plodded along the sidewalk, not noticing the deer that chewed on her neighbour’s cherry tree until it lifted its head to take a look at her.  She jumped, her heart beating loudly in her ears.
