CHAPTER SIX

Cara

In her hands, Cara held a child’s jewelry box.  The ballerina still spun when she opened the lid and she searched until she found two gold hoop earrings.

“That’s it!  Mom must be Theresa!”  Cara’s mother had given her these earrings for her fifteenth birthday a year ago.  She had tried to find out where they were from, but her mother would only say they were very special.  Was Drake her dad?  Cara’s earrings had one small diamond in each hoop.  She’d worn them a lot at first, but put them away when volleyball started.  She hadn’t wanted to lose one on the gym floor.  She took them out now and placed them in her ears.  Her mother still wasn’t home from her walk, so Cara continued reading.
