‘Does it have to be now?’ Rachel asked. ‘She’s not in the mood.’

‘Tell you what, you come out now without a beep, I don’t blow up your kneecaps later.’

Erin unfolded and stood.

‘I knew you’d like the offer. Come on.’

There was no alternative. They moved reluctantly to the door. As soon as Adam was outside, the bigger man got hold of his arm, twisting it behind his back. Cap Man kept aiming the gun at Erin. When Rachel was about to cross the threshold, he pushed her back in and slammed the door on her face.

‘You know what to do,’ he said and, pushing Erin towards another room, he followed her inside and locked the door. Adam made a move to go after them, but a painful pull at his shoulder held him back.
