‘Your shirt is all soggy,’ she said a few minutes later. Her voice was hoarse.
‘And who’s to blame, huh?’ he said softly, giving her a fresh tissue to dry her face. She did so gingerly; the raw skin under her eyes made her wince.
‘I have killed a man,’ she said.
‘You don’t know that. We’ve discussed this before.’
‘Not him, the other one.’
‘With that ridiculous little thing I gave you? Come on.’
‘I didn’t mean to! I just wanted him to let me go, I couldn’t see what I was doing. He had me in a chokehold and I hit with the hand I could move. There was so much blood…’
‘Let’s not speak about that for now.’
