‘Where exactly are you?’ he asked.

She told him. ‘We’re hiding from a creep.’

‘That creep is one of our men, Miss Lowe. We decided to put some backup in place, just in case. I should have known better.’ He sighed.

Somebody knocked on the display. Through the holes, Adam made out a police ID displayed against the little door. He opened it to find the “creep” holding his ID with an irritated expression and an employee next to him, amusement and annoyance fighting to claim her.

The agent escorted them out of the shop. ‘I’ll make myself scarce now,’ he said. ‘Please don’t do this again.’ He walked away and disappeared among the crowd.

Erin went quiet.

‘What’s the matter?’ Adam asked.
