David found them in the living room, which they had to themselves. Gran Weston was with Adam’s parents in the kitchen having a drink, Garcia and Vilalta had left, and the other two agents were working in the studio. Adam was reading with his feet resting on a pouf while Erin listened to music from her iPod stretched along the rest of the sofa, her head propped against Adam’s thigh.

‘Here you are,’ he said. ‘How are you feeling?’

‘Better, but you were too rough. Don’t torture me that way again, please,’ Adam said with the barest hint of a whine.

‘Don’t start,’ David groaned, and waved his hand over Erin’s face, useless gesture since her eyes were closed. ‘And I wasn’t talking to you. Is she asleep?’
