‘You.’ Erin reclined on her deck chair.

‘I’ll go if you want,’ Adam said.

‘Don’t go. I was beginning to feel a little spooked here on my own. Now I don’t have to go back inside yet.’

‘Happy to be of assistance,’ he said, sitting by her side.

‘It’s such a shame to stay indoors when there is so much light to be enjoyed. Shall we go for a walk?’

‘What, around the house and back?’

She got up, went to the hedge that separated the pool area from the rest, and stepped alongside until she reached the corner, where the hedge met the metallic net marking the limits of the property. There was a small gate half hidden by old ivy.

‘Have you got your magical key?’
