‘How’s your head, Reece?’ Adam asked. They were outside the front door, sitting by a teak table with Erin.

‘Not too bad, but having to wear this dressing in this weather is killing me,’ Reece replied. ‘And the stitches itch.’ He watched his two young friends uncross their legs at the same time. ‘Listen, we’re going to do shifts for the cooking, so we made teams of three while you were in there with the policemen. We’re first and are supposed to get ready as soon as the delivery van arrives with the food.’

‘My parents can’t cook to save their lives,’ Erin said.She took an elastic band from her pocket and held it up to her hair. ‘They’ll starve all of you and poison me.’
