Erin’s stomach did a triple somersault.

‘Maybe they’ve come and gone already,’ Reece said.

‘We haven’t found a single trace in the entire house,’ Adam said. ‘The police have never been here. Cabot didn’t even call them.’

‘You don’t know that,’ Erin said.

‘So why aren’t they here? Even if the kidnappers left a false clue to mislead us, why isn’t there at least a solitary patrol wondering why he had to miss his siesta for nothing and asking us questions?’

‘Phone the detective then,’ Reece said. ‘Ask him what happened. Perhaps there is an explanation.’
