A tall young man dressed in an elegant suit, obviously expensive albeit somewhat crumpled after hours of travel, was standing there with a small suitcase. Erin gasped and hugged him on impulse.

‘I thought you were in the conference!’

‘It was even more boring than I thought, so I escaped to come where I thought I actually should be. I’m sorry I missed the ceremony. I’ve just checked in.’ He showed his keycard with a flourish. ‘I expected a more festive atmosphere though. Why aren’t you at the disco?’

Erin hesitated. Should she tell him everything? He deserved it. He was not only her childhood friend, but Rachel’s too. But was it advisable?

Adam cleared his throat noisily. She introduced them, then he solved the dilemma himself.
