‘Consultant? That’s a good one! Did he tell you that?’

Erin scowled. ‘He doesn’t speak to such a lowly being as me. Rachel told me he’s a consultant. Or an advisor, I can’t remember which.’

He snickered. ‘I guess he could advise you about bookmakers. What else did she tell you? I’m curious to hear.’

‘That he’s been to an elite boarding school and he’s a clever businessman. When you finish laughing you could tell me what’s going on.’

He sobered a little. ‘Oh, he went to a boarding school, but not the kind of public school you sister must have assumed. I doubt he told her the truth. It was a posh school for difficult children. Our parents thought he’d learn discipline there.’
