Erin grunted furiously. ‘This is not working!’

She stood, trod from end to end of the room along the little space there was left, flopped in her armchair again, sat up.

‘The road places,’ she said. ‘One of them could be involved. We could search them.’

‘What, the whole lot? How and with what excuse?’

Enervated, she sank in her seat.

‘This isn’t square one, we haven’t even opened the game box.’

‘We aren’t Sherlock Holmes. What would he have done in our place?’

‘Find the place where the car vanished.’

‘We can go and search the road later if you want. There will be enough light until late.’

‘We’ve done that already. I have a better idea.’...
