Adam took the note to read it silently, then gave it to Erin. The message basically said to keep quiet, not to contact the police, and to wait for instructions.

‘This is stupid,’ Adam said. ‘Why don’t they say what they want right away?’

‘They obviously need to gain time,’ Mr Weston-Creuset said.

‘I can’t believe it,’ Erin said.

‘You’d better believe it,’ Mr Lowe snapped. ‘I suppose you’re happy now.’
