Kara poked her head through the portal. Klaxons assaulted her ears, and she shouted to be heard. "Hey, guys, it's me, coming through."

Snowflake shrieked, dropping the portal gun to the floor. Kara winced, hoping it wouldn't trigger a new portal when it clattered against the tiles.

"Oh god, Kara, you're alive! I thought you'd die of dysentery while you were trapped in some low-tech place!"

"Dysentery?"

"It could happen," Snowflake insisted.

Kara looked back over her shoulder. Doctor Sparx's portal blended almost seamlessly with the wall behind her. "The sensors went off because an unknown portal opened."
