Kara's nose itched, but she dared not reach to scratch it. A series of leather straps and brass contacts connected the motion of her arms to that of the mecha she was helping to pilot, one that Doctor Sparx called Terasu. When the inventor had explained that it translated to "illuminate," Kara had picked it as the one she wanted to pilot. "I've gotta make me one of these."

"Kara-san?" One of the two assistant pilots looked up at her from her perch in the left leg.

"Are we ready, Keiko?"

The young woman blushed. "We are, Kara-san, but I am Erina."

"Sorry, Erina on the left, Keiko on the right. And all I need to do is run the weapons systems?"

"Hai," Erina replied with a nod. "We'll handle the flight...
