Sarah looked over the contents of the telegram, and immediately saw what the men at the hotel would not have. Though the telegram itself was in German, the words that would begin with lowercase letters if handwritten spelled out "Delayed" in English. She grinned at the Venetian. "You missed the ..."

Before she could finish, the Venetian swept in and pulled her close to him. Near enough to kiss her, he whispered in rapid-fire Italian. "I was followed. I understand the message. We must wait elsewhere."

As if to punctuate his quick message, the sound of falling rocks caught Sarah's attention. "Too late," she said, crouching to scoop up her explosive arrows and put them back in her quiver. She grabbed instead a smoke screen arrow and fired it at the ground in the dire...
