Micro-essay: I don't want to be part of the problem
Series Info | Table of Contents

I didn't want this to be an essay.

The more words, the less meaning.

I simply wanted to write, "Black Lives Matter."

Because they do.

I don't understand why statements like that require explanation.

I'm a half-filipino woman with a severe visual impairment. If I said, "Blind People's Lives Matter,"

Would people argue with me?

If I said, "Disabled Lives Matter,"

Would the world shout back, "Non-disabled people are important, too! Able-bodied people are also important."

Maybe they would.

I don't have all of the answers.

I just know that we can't all be free until we are ALL free.
