Semper fi 

My father was a marine 

For years, the only photo

 I had of him

was in his uniform. 

White hat

Dark eyes 

Dashing smile 

When I was four,

While Christmas shopping,

I asked a marine in his dress uniform,

“Are you my father?”

He looked so handsome 

Like my daddy

My mother was mortified 

My father is dead now. 

In the photo,

 he was younger

than I am today

Semper fi

Always faithful 

Always loyal
