“It’s no trouble at all,” Jake grinned. His golden eyes twinkled as he gazed down at her, a bright smile filling his face. “So, you were going to come looking for me, huh? I must have made quite an impression.”
Jo’s cheeks flushed and she started picking at her fingernails, her gaze darting around the room. “Oh, well, you know. I’m new around here and wanted to be neighborly…” She let her words trail off, painfully aware of how lame she sounded.
Jake laughed and the sound filled the huge kitchen. “Don’t worry about it, I’m just giving you crap. You definitely made an impression on me, and I had to hunt this stuff down in my garden just for an excuse to see you again.”
