It wasn’t until his friend and neighbor, Charles Grantham stopped by that he knew something was very, very wrong.

Charles rang the bell and Nathan had dashed to answer it, desperate for company. He pulled the door open and was ecstatic to see his friend.

“Oh, you are a sight for sore eyes!” He pulled the door open farther, indicating that Charles should come in. Instead, his neighbor stood on the front step, holding his hat with his mouth agape.

“Hello?” Charles called into the foyer. He stepped gingerly into the house. “Is anyone home?”
